The latest CS:GO update

Written by LeetDonkeyComments (0)

The latest CS:GO update has introduced some measures that are causing quite significant changes on the servers:

!knife and !ws have been disabled.

Five months ago, the CS:GO team decided to blacklist plugins that grant access to skins and weapons not in your inventory.

This meant they were now able to ban servers running those plugins.

As enforcement of this rule was, to put it mildly, inadequate and easy to circumvent, uber1337.dk chose to continue using the aforementioned plugins.

Unfortunately for us, the CS:GO team were aware of the problem, and in subsequent patches they worked to resolve it:

The first step was to implement the Game Server Login Token system, meaning that each server must have a unique key linked to a Steam account in order to function.

This means that a server ban is no longer IP-based, but is based on this token, and consequently on the Steam account that generated the token for the server in question; in other words, you cannot simply generate a new one, as the Steam account is also banned from creating game servers.

The next step came with the latest patch: it is now possible for players to report servers for running these blacklisted plugins, i.e. if someone gets annoyed that we’re running blacklisted plugins, they can simply report the server, after which Valve will investigate whether it is actually running the aforementioned plugins and then ban it so that no one can connect to it.

It’s not hard to imagine that someone who’s spent a lot of money on an expensive knife might get a bit annoyed that everyone else is running around with the very same knife on the server.

Or to take another example: someone has a falling out with other players or an admin and ‘punishes’ them by reporting the server.

It has therefore been decided to remove these plugins, as it has simply become too risky to run them.

If the official stance on these plugins changes, or if there’s some other way to run them without risk, then they’ll naturally be brought back, but unfortunately that’s a long way off.
